Kids Should Play with Toys not iPads

These days, I've been seeing a trend on the internet, where parents posts videos of their kids playing with ipads while throwing temper tantrums. I assumed those kids are the exception and not the norm. I thought most kids don't play with ipads because parents know it's not a good idea to hand a tablet to a kid. A trip to the toy section changed my mind. A few days ago, I went shopping for board games and I walked through the toy section in a Walmart. This was a Saturday afternoon, but the toy section was pretty quiet with very few kids. Not only was the section quiet, but the inventory of toys seemed smaller to what it used to be twenty years ago when I was a kid. I thought to myself, maybe kids aren't interest in playing with toys because they have their ipads. This is just speculation though.

I know there could be many other factors, but I am concerned that the next generation of kids who grow up with ipads are losing their desire and ability to play with toys. An ipad offers easy and endless entertainment. It's easy for the parents because their kids will be occupied for a few hours. However, giving an ipad to a kid at a young age is setting them up for failure. An ipad is extremely addictive, and if adults struggled with self control, how much more would kids struggle? Therefore, I recommend that adults don't give ipads to young kids, but to get them to play with normal toys.
