Read this article to learn why our foods contain less nutrients these days. https://www.greenpeace.org/india/en/story/12577/healthy-soil-for-healthy-us/
Basically because of improper farming practices, the soil used for farming has less nutrients than a couple hundred years ago. The orange you buy from the grocery store has less vitamin C than an orange from a couple hundred years ago. So you either would need to eat more oranges or take a Vitamin C supplement. That is where supplements come in.
I started my health conscious journey when I was about 20 years old. That was when I started to read different health books, and many of the books recommended supplements. I tried to go for the supplements that many authors recommended such as Vitamin B, Vitamin D, Magnesium, and Zinc. But the list just kept getting bigger and my medicine cabinet kept accumulating different bottles. There's nootropics, herbs from India, and superfoods that I was taking. I was swallowing 10 - 15 different pills a day at one point.
There came a point, when I sometimes felt light headed and possibly overdosed at times and felt like fainting and so I started to cut back on the supplements. I did more research and read about the risks with too high doses. Currently there's a lot of loose regulations concerning the supplement industry. I remember one writer called it "the wild west." So with supplements be careful with the serving sizes and do your research.
